Our work

Much of our research work is focussed on engine and train workings

Loco Allocations

Spotting records

Engine Workings

Help with indexing

Ross Woollard is progressing with the loco allocation records. This is a massive project and one that will take many years to get to fruition. We know there is much incorrect data existing in the public domain and we hope to confirm this and give an accurate allocation listing in the future.

We are always looking to view train spotters notebooks. The information contained therein is vital for us to progress. Even basic notes are useful when compared against others for the same day. Have you kept your notebooks and would you share them with us? We have several options available to us to assist with this and we just ask you to make contact and we will discuss the best way forward.

Several of our members are engaged in research that relies heavily on access to engine workings. These can be diagrams or footplate diaries or even guards logs. Signal boxes on the Midland routes often wrote down the engine numbers and this type of information in just what we need.

We are currently seeking help with indexing our spotting records. We receive many requests for information but until our records are fully indexed (excel) we cannot know exactly how we might help. Got some spare time (especially during lockdown?) then why not help us. All you need is a computer/laptop.
